Council Information

Community Councils have limited powers and, especially in our case, very limited resources as we are a very small community council with an adult population of just under 250 people. Our main responsibilities are to act as as advocates and representatives of our residents, voicing local concerns to the relevant authorities. We are also consulted by the authorities on such matters as planning applications. Examples include;

  • Responding to the Vale Council’s Local development Plan,
  • Representations to the Woodland Trust (regarding maintenance issues to the surrounding woodland paths),
  • Representations to the Police and Vale Council - for instance regarding parking on Leckwith Hill on Cardiff City match days,
  • Representations to the Vale Council regarding unauthorised developments and conservation issues.

We can also make some modest improvements to our environment and were able recently to install benches, a picnic table and strategically placed trees in our “park” in Michaelston-le-Pit and to plant some new trees on the green in Leckwith.
